Swedish Algae Factory
Swedish Algae Factory is a company that cultivates the algae group diatoms and extracts its high-tech silica shells for various applications. They are known for their algae materials, called Algica, which replace harmful and less efficient chemicals in high-end organic personal care products, and have the potential to increase the efficiency of solar panels. The company operates with a circular mindset, converting carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and phosphorus emissions into valuable products. They grow their algae in a large greenhouse on the Swedish west coast and extract their unique algae materials in an adjacent facility. Swedish Algae Factory has received the EU LIFE grant for their project LIFE SUNALGAE, which aims to extract and utilize diatom shells at a large scale for solar panel efficiency enhancing applications.
